Senator Melendez to Hold Governor Accountable for Proposed Tax Refunds

California State Senator Melissa Melendez (R- Lake Elsinore) issued the following statement following the Governor’s Budget Blueprint announcement:

“I’m glad to see that Governor Newsom has finally realized the Government is taking too much money from the taxpayers. My Republican colleagues and I have called on this Governor to give taxpayers refunds and until now it’s been met with silence. Back in June we authored a letter calling for a gas tax holiday in the hopes the majority party would see that everyday Californians were struggling to make ends meet. While there are other items in this blueprint worthy of consideration, such as wildfire prevention and funding law enforcement, I will be holding the Governor’s feet to the fire and keep him at his word to refund surplus dollars to the taxpayers; fix the crime waves ravaging our businesses and communities; and helping to solve the fentanyl crisis killing our children. Unfortunately, this blueprint is just a continuation of the existing spending sprees without any transparency or accountability. Considering the state’s problems are getting worse, not better, one would think there is another option than trying to spend your way out of it.”
