Senator Melendez Responds to New COVID Guidelines

California State Senator Melissa Melendez (R- Lake Elsinore), author of SCR 5, issued the following statement regarding Governor Newsom’s new mask guidance:

“It’s amazing to see the Governor backpedal on his forever state of emergency over the past 96 hours. It’s not the science that has changed, it’s the political science that has changed.  It’s clear the mounting political pressure from parents and Californians are driving these decisions.  Now it’s time to ensure this Governor, and future Governors, cannot use states of emergency to wield ultimate power over everyday Californians again.”

Today, Governor Newsom announced California would be revising its masking guidance effective after 11:50p on March 11th.  Starting on March 1st, masks will no longer be required for unvaccinated individuals and after March 11th, mask will no longer be required in schools and child care facilities.
